The Paynims Gate is a natural interplanetary rift, one of at least two that connect Eamon to the distant world of Oerth. It formed in the early first century YA in the plains northwest of the Black Mountains of Inner Addar and connects to the Plains of the Paynims west of the Barrier Peaks on Oerth.
Unlike the Dramidj Rift farther west, both ends of the rift were situated in sparsely inhabited regions, so few people knew of it and fewer still crossed it. That changed in 208 when a pair of magical cataclysms annihilated the Baklunish Empire and the Suel Imperium, warring nations to the west. Survivors from Balkunish fled east across the Plains of the Paynims; many continued on to the eastern lands of the Flanaess, but some crossed the rift and made new lives in Addar. The emigrants to Eamon found the land familiar and inviting, and blended with the local scattered tribes to form what would later become the peoples of Larboria and Perrenor.
The rift remains open, but the surrounding area on both sides is regularly patrolled by horsemen who watch for threats and incursions.
