The Sea of Dreams, also known as the Stormy Sea, is a wide gulf that reaches into the continent of Addar, separating the eastern lands of Dorier, Sylph, and Norsax from the western lands of Trillium, Agimen, and Tanjid. Those traversing the sea are well advised to keep to its coastal waters, avoiding wherever possible the hazards of the deeper sea which include marauding pirates, aggressive marine life, and the powerful storms which blow from the south.
The shallow northeastern portion of the Sea of Dreams that lies within the arc of Weyren's Belt near the Kingdom of Evenhold is known as the Malphigian Sea and is a particularly active area of pirate activity, though naval patrols under the command of Lord Collingwood keep the main trade routes relatively safe. Outside the Malphigian lies the island kingdom of Duron and smaller isle of Wango, beyond which stretches the sea's emptier and more poorly charted southern expanse. While coastal archipelagos like the Violet Isles to the east and the Tarrabor Islands to the west are familiar to sailors, the turbulent and stormy interior can be challenging for navigators and is rarely traversed without a compelling need.
The sea's coastal waters carry a considerable amount of traffic ranging from small fishing boats and local ferries to merchant sailing vessels and naval warships. The busiest ports include Evenhold, Southport, Aksha, and Lumen in the Kingdom of Evenhold; Antius in Trillium; the White Harbor in Agimen; Qideen in Tanjid; and the capital of the Empire of Dorier. Occasional sightings of tritons and merfolk suggest they have settlements hidden in the deep waters.
