A tectonic weapon deployed against the fortifications of Vaalpa (held by Charlastan loyalists) accidentally destroys much of the city, killing hundreds and injuring many more.
The population grows increasingly anxious and angry about the growing acts of destruction perpetrated by both claimants in the war. A coalition of military leaders, guildmasters, and mages meet in secret, agreeing that the conflict must be stopped or the entire continent will suffer the same fate as Oerth. They quietly secure the support of key individuals in both camps.
