Mudville, a town in the far southeastern corner of Evenshire, is best known as the home of Evenhold University, a prestigious institution of research and higher learning whose campus sits on the northern edge of the village. Faculty and students, many from more remote parts of the kingdom or from lands outside it, regularly patronize the town's shops and taverns, which in typical town-and-gown fashion is both a boon to local tradesmen and a source of conflict and aggravation for the residents. Brawls, pranks, drunkenness, and other disruptions by the students are not uncommon despite efforts by local authorities to nix them. Booksellers, potion shops, clothing stores, and an exotic blend of small specialized establishments line the town's main thoroughfare and sidestreets.
The town's name stems from the marshy fens it was originally built upon, most of which have long since been drained. Members of the university's archaeology department may often be found poking through local bogs where artifacts of long-lost civilizations occasionally surface.
