Charlast was the son of Corlis III, ruler of the Kingdom of Evenhold, and the twin sibling of Calibeth. Upon the death of his father in 203, he and his sister both laid claim to the throne. The twins' conflict led to a succession crisis, open civil war, thousands of deaths, and ultimately the downfall of the House of Anharos and the monarchy of Evenhold.

Following the war, the ruling Council of Twelve banished both siblings from the kingdom. Charlast and his entourage traveled northeast into what is now the land of Sicilia and sought refuge with distant kin who had supported his claim. Over time his grief and anger over the loss of the throne he felt entitled to inherit was passed down to his descendants, becoming a pillar of the House of Charlast and driving enmity between Sicilia and Evenhold to this day.

Castle Charlast, the seat of the Sicilian monarchy, is named for the exiled prince.
